I had a problem with my razor blade opening too easily and so I took a small ball peen hammer and re-peened one pin until the blade will stay in the scale, but........the blade is not centered when going into the scale. I must be very careful when closing the blade so it does not rub the scale.
What did I do wrong?????
Could be you did nothing wrong. might be all you need to do is to tighten up your pivot pin a bit with a spoon.
It sounds like you bent your pin by tapping it too hard.
One guideline for how hard to tap a pin is to only hit it as hard as you would deliberately hit you finger. In other words, you have to use the hammer very lightly.
Check out the restoration area for advice about re-pinning or send the razor to one of the restoration guys for repair.
If you went after it too hard you could have bent the pivot pin. I probably bent a dozen of them before I learned that lightly actually means lightly. Hard to be sure, but that is what I would put my money on.

The same way you do with a hammer. Just hold the spoon by the handle and tap down with the rounded edge the way you would when peening normally. Crazy, I know, but it really does do the trick to tighten up a loose pin. There was even a thread a month or so ago about peening entirely with a spoon. It definitely prevents you from hitting it hard enough to bend the pin, that's for sure.
Edit: I'm not really sure how to go about fixing it... I have only had the problem when making and pinning my own scales, so I just pull the bent pin out, throw it away, and cut a new length of brass rod.

You might be able to fix it by peening/tightening the pin opposite of the side that its hitting. If the scales are rubber or celluloid you can also heat up some water, put the scales in a bag and heat them in the water, then try torquing and/or bending them so they don't hit that side anymore. I'd try the opposite side peening first.
