Zeppling gave some good points, and stropping is very important, but I would say you need to get a practice strop. If you get an expensive strop and don't do a lot of practicing you will have tons of nicks. Some people will recommend making a strop out of newspaper and trying that, but I think using a cheap leather strop give you a better feel of whats is goin on.
Be patient, it usually takes 3 months or so to get a handle on this and in a year or so you will be still learning the finer points.

Great points above. I'm just here to say HOWDY.

Enjoy. May your wallet be empty, shave den full, and a sh*t eating grin on your face.
Alot of good advice already said. A good cheap strop to start out with is on ruprazor.com is the filly strop. There is also a strop razor combo for cheap: RupRazor - Gold Dollar Razor and Filly Strop
Welcome to SRP. If you follow through with your commitment you'll find that you'll get better shaves than the barber gave you. :tu
Thanks for all the great advice. I am sorry I did not respond until now. I have been having trouble activating the quick reply function. I apologize if it appeared rude. Still haven't activated the quick reply function.
I had not thought about ruining my strop with improper technique. Good thing ya'll told me about that because I just recieved my Dovo strop (premium russian leather). That would have been ashame to ruin an expensive strop. Does anyone know where I can get a cheap expendable strop?
Get this:
RupRazor - The Filly
Best $20 you will spend while starting down this path. :)
Do yourself a favor and get the FillyStrop (or similar)!
I'm new here and read about how you will likely nick/cut your first strop as are learning your technique. Well, it is true!
I received mine in the mail recently and have been EXTREMELY careful stropping my first razor. Well, sure enough, I already nicked it.
I'm glad I didn't spend a lot on it and once i master the technique (of stropping and shaving) I'll buy a more expensive one.
