Well I took the plunge......

I went off and got three blades......... Two are workers and one is ready to go.

First I got the following Mystery blade.....

I got it for less than $10 to my door I figure at the least I'll have something to practice my stroping/honing.

Then I got this French/Irish point looks sexy as hell.....

Less than $40 to my door.

Now this is my RTG from Bob Keyes.....

About $65 to my door.

Now I gotta get the rest of my stuff. Looking to get a Miller Strop and the rest will be improvised. Until I'm sure I'm gonna stick to this.

I'm jacked though. This is gonna be FUN!

Oh and I hope I don't cut my ear off. LOL

Are you sure that's a Spanish point? I may be wrong, but it looks like a spike point to me.

(Revised) My error...I was looking at the wrong photo. You're correct...The second razor (white scales) is a Spanish point. The third (black scales) is a spike point.

If the second one is a Spanish Point that makes me feel better. I will take better pics when I get it next week. Any way you cut it I'm looking forward to getting them. I figured the Red Man I got from Bob will get me started and then I'll work on restoring the others. I got my eye on a couple of others.

Well I think I'm done for now......... Got these two for less than $45 shiped.

I think with these two added to the collection If I can fix them all up (I don't have alot of hope for the mystery blade) I pretty much have most of the styles. Spanish, Round, Spike, and I think two "meat cleavers". I should be able to figure out what I like.

Just got the mystery blade it's actually a shoulderless spike "A.W. Shaw & Co" I think seems to be in decent shape just needs some cleaning and scales. The Spanish point is actually in pretty good shape it looks like it's been honed a bit but it will do for my purposes. I need to send them both out to get honed after I clean them up some. I'll post up pics in a little while.

Okay so a few before and afters...... I spent about an hour on the Shaw and maybe 15 on the Geneva.

The first two pics of the Geneva are how I got it I ptetty much just used some Maas and a Dremel. It cleaned up nicely. Id does show some wear on the spine from honeing, it wasn't apparent on the ebay pic buuut I'm pretty sure it can be honed and used as a shaver. It's a 4/8 with a Spanish point and scales that look to be bone. But I'm not sure. Can someone tell me a trick to determine what they are made of?

The first two are of the blade as I recieved it. The second two are after some sandpaper and dremel work the pics don't do it juctice the damn thing is almost a mirror now. The blade shows little to no honing and the rust left very little pitting. I think this blade is going to end up being pretty good once honed and scaled. Seems to be a nice 5/8 spike no shoulder and a wedge.


Opinions and advice are welcome and encouraged.

Okay so after further review it's not a wedge..... somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 hollow. I think I'm beginning to get confused with all these terms/options/features. LOL

So the other 3 came in....

The other two well lets see where do I start? The one with yellow scales looks to be about a 4/8 round tip and says Peaso... Solingen also there is a 27 and then there is a guy wearing a hat and looks to be holding 2 buckets. The scales are a little warped but I can probably straighten them.

Now the W&B..... looks good except I think some schmuck hit it with IDK what but the edge looks like it got hot......... SUX. The scales need a lil help too. IDK how big a deal that is.

This blade I think is going to clean up well I just need to get some scales or fix the ones that are there.

Now the Wade & Butcher.... I'm a little bit irritated about this one because I was looking forward to having a nice one of these.

IDK if the temper is screwed any ideas on how to check before I spend time and money? It needs scales too.

Here is a group shot. So far I figure a little bit of sandpaper and a bunch of MAAS. The blades will be set. I need to buy a few pairs of scales and get the four of them honed. I should really be able to figure out what I like.
