Or so it seems. Gotta get some new face skin. Doggone, every time I shave I get a few new cuts. Just carelessness. I get too fast (I'm a hyper person at times, fast paced). But geesh! These skin slices. Today just putting the razor up to my face and I didn't ease the blade up there, but the point kind of "jumped" from my hand and the point got me.
Patience, padawan. Use foresight, you must. :D
But at least you realized what you did that caused the cut, right? It is a learning curve that gets easier the longer you do it. Remember it is a marathon not a sprint.
Oh yeah. I'm learning what's causing all the trauma. It has been nothing a shot from the styptic couldn't remedy. 'Cept for when I took the razor out my pocket and sliced the finger...that needed superglue. Don't carry your razor in your pocket like that. Nothing has been as bad as the slice on my chin after the 2nd shave. You truly don't feel it until after the fact. It is truly great fun though. And the shaves are truly improving.
Growing up me and my brothers had a saying. "wounds heal and chicks dig scars." A cut on your face, be it from shaving with a straight or getting in a bar fight is damn impressive either way. It's a win win situation really.
And no cuts means you got a smooth shave. I think that makes it a win win win situation.

I think there is an important point in the learning curve where you are learning the muscle memory for how your arm and hand need to move around and how much tension you hold the blade with.
I remember about 5 years ago when I would nick myself if I used too much finger tension and if I used too little. It felt like a no win situation until I found the right spot.
Even after getting by 25+ shaves, occassionally, I would get a small cut from being careless or over confident. Nothing that wouldn't heal up in 2 -3 days. End the end this reinforced my skills to be a better straight razor shaver.
Hopefully, it is helping you in becoming more proficient.

I have that problem with some of my SPIKE POINTS. I don't cut myself I seem to Stab my face. I read in one of Mr. Abrams post that some blades are longer than others. I've never put a tape measure on any of mine but I'm sure thats the problem with me and I don't think about that at shave time and I know I get careless at times. The good thing about this is I don't feel it. I just look up and see the blood trickling down my face
one thing to learn when straight shaving, SLOW DOWN and enjoy the experience. DO NOT get into a rush. the nicks or cuts that i got were also from not paying attention or wanting to get in a hurry. once i slowed down and started to enjoy the act of straight shaving everything came together much faster and i got less and less cuts and nicks..good luck
Like everybody else says: Slow down and enjoy the view. If you tend to get hyper when you shave, I think str8 shaving relaxes me, you might enjoy a shot of your favorite beverage before starting. :beer2:
Also, watch the "pause." That's what gets me and a lot of others. If you stop for any reason get the blade away from your face.
