    Default Left hand

    Hello,

I'am right handed and find shaving with my left hand very difficult in combination with a mirror.
When i want to put the blade flush against my face, i put the point in my face (mirror image remember/less control) and got a nice nick in my ear.
Just had my 3th shave, so just a beginner.
Today no nicks and nice atg cheeks, there better then with my electric shaver, the rest is on par.
But i'am having fun shaving for the first time in my life, just love the str8 razor. I have been shaving with a Philips electric shaver al my live and never had fun doing it.

    Hello and welcome!

The best advice I can give you is to develop that left hand as much as possible, and practice with it (carefully). Do everyday things with it instead of your right hand. Things like brushing your teeth, using a spoon, even trying to write a few sentences left handed. A gradual introduction of more left-handed activities into your daily life will help you along the way to greater hand control for your shaving.

    Good luck, and be patient.

    James.

That's great advice James. I have always done those things on occasion for fear of being helpless in the event of a broken or otherwise incapacitated right hand. Learning to shave with my left hand wasn't that difficult for those reasons IMO. To the OP, try not to get frustrated, and listen to James's advice. Enjoy!

Having used a straight razor since 1981 I have taken the time to throughly train my left hand.. After 29 years I am now able to hold food down on the plate with it, while I gnaw the meat off the bone basically it serves it function as a paw quite well..

    Default Left Hand

    Hello, Ridgeback:

Welcome to SRP and congratulations for moving into the straight razor world. Explore the mounds of information available to you in the Wiki and the rest of the nooks and corners at SRP.

I, too, am right handed. From the first day, however, after watching Lynn's fine video numerous times, I began concentrating on the two-handed technique. For me that has proved the best way to shave with a straight razor.

Also, from that first day, I began to train my left hand to do many of the everyday tasks. James also alludes to this method and I agree with him. Use your left hand as much as you can. It will pay off in your straight razor technique.

Keep your focus. Take your time to develop your technique naturally. Most of all, enjoy the learning process. Good luck.

    Regards,

    Obie

    I am right handed too.
I think there is somewhere should be thread i asked long time ago about left and hand right .
I used have problem with cutting myself a lot.
Problem was i had cuts only when i use right hand.
Left hand site was always great.
Later i realize it was happening because of not paying enough attention while i use right hand.
Left hand i knew i have to be careful but right hand i was thinking while i shave.
Then i slow down with right hand and everything was fine.
be patient you left hand will be fine.
