1st razor advice

Hi everyone, thanks for all the welcomes and advice on my first post.

I was after a bit more incite in to the purchase of my first straight razor. I have been looking at a few on RupRazor and have narrowed it down to a couple that i like one is the Krop 7/8 and the other, which i like more is the Wade & Butcher Celebrated. Only this being my first one i don't know which one to go for, I know that i wont be disappointed in either one but the minister for war and peace said i can only get 1 at the moment so i have to choose :(
If someone could shed some light on which one to choose it would be greatly appreciated

if its your first razor i think you should go for smaller
something like a 5/8 is normally easyer to use till you get the hang of things

Shopping list for beginners - Straight Razor Place Wiki has the best practice answer. Nice razors, but I would go for a 6/8 or 5/8, too. Not that it really matters, I started with a 4/8 which, in hindsight, was too small (I can use these small razors now, but I still don't like them at all).

Most important, welcome to the right way to shave. A 5/8 or 6/8 is a good way to go for size. You can't go wrong with a Kenrup start. He's a good guy and will do right for you. Another place to check is the classifieds. Good razors at attractive prices... :beer1:

Another opinion. I love Sheffield steel and Wade Butcher make great blades. I prefer a wider blade although I have a number of 6/8 an 5/8. No 4/8's for me.

Both should be fine, though 7/8 is a bit on the large side. But it looks as if it has a jimped tang too (improves grip IMO), which should improve the grip. I don't see that same with the W&B. Personally, I'd take the Kropp (large, jimped)

Be snappy about the choice though - vintages are always one offs and someone might snag it before you...
