+ 1 Obie - that is exactly what I do.

What if you wiped the blade on the towel in the same manner as you would while stropping, spine leading. One stroke forward and one back, this way the edge is not abused.
Sounds like there are two differnt discussions going on here. One concering wiping the blade dry when done; and one concering wiping between strokes during the shave.
I do the former, not the later. I rinse int he standing water of the sink. CAREFULLY.

I rinse the lather off and then dry the blade on a towel. First the spine and the point, then I pinch the blade between a fold in the towel and draw it through. I am careful to only wipe within about an eighth of an inch or so of the edge. A couple of short stropping strokes on a flat area of the towel and that does it for me. I check the tang for water and set the razor in a dry area. Sometimes it gets a few passes on a strop, sometimes not.
I just want to say one word to you.
Just one word.
Are you listening?
Microfiber.
Seriously it will change you life and keep you hand dry while shaving, perfectly dry. It will also dry and clean your razor perfectly.
I buy them by the bunch from Costco for 12-15 buck for 30 towels. They are also great when honing. Wash well in the machine, though they will shrink if put in the dryer, but not much.
Pinched between thumb and forefinger and moving away from the edge slightly as you progress to the tip. No water, No soap, No blood & rust, if you take your time.
