    Red face Question for Group

Hi, I new to using a straight razor and have a question about stropping. I have noticed that my razor has developed more of a shine on the cutting part of the blade toward the heel than the toe. This is only on the side of the blade that I draw towards me when I strop the razor. I use the linen and leather side of the strop. Can someone tell me what I may be doing wrong to cause the uneven sharpening/stropping, and will it ruin my new Thiers Issard?

    Confused

no you wont ruin the razor but it is possible that you damage the edge
what kind of strop do you use 2inch, 3inch?

Welcome to SRP. I haven't got a definitive answer for you. Without seeing the razor and your stropping it is hard to know from your description. In the SRP Wiki linked below in my sig line there are tutorials on stropping as well as videos demonstrating all things related to straight razor shaving. Here is a 1961 barber manual excerpt on stropping and honing that may be of some use to you.

I have read the tutorials and I use a 2 in DOVO strop that came with my razor. The razor doesnt seem to pull when shaving, I get a good shave I just woundered if I am doing something wrong when stropping and if so what. If you tilt the blade so the edge catches the light you can see that the shine in wider at the heel than the toe. When I say shine I mean the sharp edge it tapers from the heel to the toe.

I dont think the picture really shows but its the best I have

From what your saying it sounds like the bevel is not the same along the entire length or the razor. It's really not a problem as long as it doesn't become extreme. I don't know if the razor was honed before but it probably got more attention in some areas than others.
