Default My second real straight got here today

And I was due for another shave, so I tried it right away.

It is a vintage Keenoh razor and it came shave ready. It is less shinny than my first one, but it is very sharp. It is a full hollow square end.

IIt is the first time I shave with 2 razors at the same time as a test, and here is what I realized. The full hollow is perfect for my face and strong beard, and the half hollow is perfect for my head, specially because of the round end.

Both give me the feeling that they are both as good, and being a beginner I can't feel the difference yet between the full and half full hollow types of bevel. But I can appreciate the good feeling of a nice razor, that's for sure.

Btw, it is the first time I shave both my face and head WTG and ATG all together, and it is an almost perfect shave this time with only a few spots not as close. But overall it is a real close shave good enough for any occasions. There was also more blood though.

I'll post pictures of the razor later.

    Gratz!

It sounds like you are getting some good results, which is great! All I will say is just dont rush things. If you find you are nicking yourself a lot, back off and work on areas you are comfortable with until you feel better about handling the razor, and finish the other areas with a DE or something. Then, once you're happy, expand the areas you are shaving and you'll be there..!

Good luck and keep us posted!

+1 with stubear-and don't forget to use a good artershave balm or antiseptic cream to heal those nicks as you rest from using the straights.
Well done & keep up the good work.

For the after shave, I have some Prerosa which is pretty well forgiving for the cuts. But I also ordered some 1445 from Castle Forbes which seems to be a favorite, or at least something I should like.

Here is a picture of the straights I have right now, including 2 disposable blades razors. Of the 2 disposables, the white one is VERY cheap, the chrome one has a nice stainless blade holder, but the handle is also plastic.

The top one is my first one of course, and the next one is this second straight that I received today. The knive on the right is a carving knife made from a straight razor. It's a wonderful knife.

Again, my wife told me that my skin was getting better everyday when she saw me

Btw, her sister still has a straight from a first job she had, and I once asked her many years ago if she would sell or give it to me so I could try it. And remembering that yesterday really made me realized that it's not a recent rage for me to try a straight for shaving...

Oh, and the answer was no, because she felt it was too dangerous to own and use a straight...

    Haha...

I think it is time to show a picture of one of my "first" wood carvings.

As you can see, I like danger, and am not affraid of blood. But luckily I learned to try to avoid it. Not all, but most of the time though. And my most dangerous knife is the one made from a straight.
