    Default 1st attempt

Thanks to ben.mid for providing me with a shave ready starter str8

I had my 1st attempt at shaving with it tonight and it was a lot more alien than my 1st DE shave was. That said I did manage to shave both right and left cheeks from side burn down to jaw line and used both hands. My angle was all over the place, but I managed to get away with only 1 small nick and a mild bit of irritation, I finished up with a couple of passes with a DE razor.

I suspect the learning curve is a bit steeper than DE shaving, after years of cartridge razors DE isn't as huge a leap grip is similar etc.

However I do remember that I managed some reasonable blood leakage on my 1st few DE shave which didn't happen with the str8!

I cut myself much worse and more frequently with a DE than I ever have with a straight razor. Respect the razor don't fear it and be patient.

    Good job...

It appears that you are making good progress in becoming proficient with a straight razor. The more you use that blade, the better you'll get at using it. That being said, be patient, take your time and continue to perfect your beard prep and stropping skills as well as shaving technique.

You'll be giving the rest of us pointers about straight razor shaving in no time.

    Take care--and smooth shaving.

Welcome to SPR and the right way to shave. Sounds like you've got a great start. Remember, this is not a race. Take your time and learn as you go. Add other areas to your face when you are ready, as well as XG and ATG...

It sounds like you are off to a great start! Well done!

Just take it slow, dont rush and you'll get the results you want. It can take a little time to work out the best passes and technique, but thats all part of the fun..!

Good luck and keep us posted!

    Thanks everyone.

Yes I shall indeed take it slowly, there is no rush, I will probably just get the hang of the "sides" and finish up with the DE until I'm more comfortable with the grips, stropping etc.

    Regards

Congratulations. Sounds like you're a lot better at it than I was at first attempt. I've only been at this a short time myself, but for me, after a period of some doubt with all this, it did 'click in'. And then of course, learning the techniques that really work for you begins from there. I would recommend starting out with only one hand at a time, though.

    Cheers.

Excellent start! No rush, just keep building on it step by step and reading the SRP wiki. I went from a Mach 3 to straight shaving and if I can do it, so can everyone else. Also, I was using an inexpensive disposable straight razor when I started and these blades offered no forgiveness until about the third shave.

    Good Luck,

    Pabster
