Oily skin issue for sometime

So...I for some years have been using DE/SE handles and blades and just ordered my blade on the classifieds section here and my strop from SRD site..I as does my mom have oily skin..my problem is my skin is oily after any aftershave I can recall using..currently I am using DR Harris aftershave from England..thus was more than 6 months ago and I use this because it has the least amount of alcahol..but my wife wondered my skin is so oily (aside from genetics)..what else could I use..I have an allergy to these items due to my condition: Fibromyalgia Treatment Center / Guaifenesin Protocol

What soap are you using? I would recommend someone not too oily, I like VDH Glycerin, and scrub it in good. For the A/S the higher alcohol ones will help keep your face dry.

For me I use Nivea because if I don't my face is too dry from the VDH and pulls, so since the Nivea has moisturiser it helps. THis is basically the opposite situation to you.

I use Dove soap which is well known to hydrate my face and soften my skin.I love it personally as it does have 1/4 moisturizing cream

I dont think a skin doc will really know how to help as I am sure he would say avoid alcohol to avoid any negative skin reaction.

Look for products that contain retinol and salicylic acid This would be a no no for me as it is natural. Toners that are alcohol-free and that contain salicylic acid are also great to keep around and reapply during the day as needed.

I have been to some in the past...mixed responses and with what I cant use..leaves them with medication n such..no thnx

+1 do not listen to us, unless we have a good joke to tell.

Do listen to your doctor. They are learning more and more
on this so the answer may change from quarter to quarter.

Do minimize the list of the products you use. Keep
a list of them and their listed ingredients for you and the
doctor to review. He may even want you to rotate products
including going Don Johnson for a couple weeks...

If the Mayo Clinic has a clue you should keeping track of
all your food and drink already. Add shave products to the
list too.... heck even laundry soap.

So instead of going to a trained professional in the area of skin care issues, you ask here? Seriously, you need to go and see a professional about the problem. Any advice we would give, would be based on personal experience, and in all likelihood would not be relevant (on the basis that we probably don't have the same issues as you).

Once you have seen a professional and have some advice on what is causing the problem, and what sort of things to use/avoid, THEN we might be able to offer some assistance with those choices/products.

I also have oily skin, which is good and not so good. Straight shaving shaves everything off my face including any oils, so after the shave, I need to add some moisture back into it, but I am sensitive as to what is added.

A gentle moisturizer such as facial vitamin C cream, which I do water down with a few drops before applying works well. I also use a Nevia Balm that is for sensitive skin.

I'm also a victim of oily skin. I have fallen in love with the alcohol free Thayers witch hazel as an AS. It's very light but moisturizes just enough. The cucumber is what I prefer but they have a decent line up.
