Newbie question...Are these compareable?

A fresh yellow Japanese DE blade vs what im getting in the mail...AJ Jordan Sheffield 7/8 str8 razor (honed by Sham..Thnx! from the classified section)

As I was using my Yellow De blade..I barely touched right left side under my ear lobe and nicked myself without even touching myself!..boy was this annoying..man these DE blades are sharp!...smooth yes..but I did miss a line of spots under my chin that im not gonna go back to touch up not wanting razor burn as well as another small patch on left side of my mouth...as sharp as a yellow feather is and for the first time I went 5 passes after 3 days of beard growth (my background is polish/Hungarian descent)..the hairy type...;-P
I can only hope and feel my str8 razor will be more forgiving and yea no more need to buy as many blades if need be (unless my str8 gets honed by a pro). comments/suggestions always appreciated!

A straight razor is certainly that sharp and will cut your just as easily. I touched my razor to my earlobe this very morning and got a small slice. I didnt even know I'd done it until my lather went pink..!

But the actual feeling of the shave is very different. I find a straight razor to be much smoother than a DE and the shave lasts longer as well.

Smoother in what sense?..the feeling it is on your skin compared to a sharp as heck feather DE?..is the idea to go as light as I did with my De feather..even though I missed spots on my face..would the str8 get the same spots as I missed with my DE you think?

I find straights feel smoother on the skin. When I go back to a DE, the edge feels harsher and more scratchy somehow, whereas my straights are smooth as silk.

Yes, keep the pressure as light as possible and let the blade do the work. In terms of missed areas on your face, that most likely wont be due to the sharpness of the blade (a Feather is plenty sharp enough to give a good shave) but due to shaving technique. You need to map the growth of your beard and then stretch the skin the other way to make hairs stand up. This is what will ensure that you get all the whiskers and dont miss any.
