Day 8 No Blood drawn

Morning I'm stoked....while the shave wasn't the closest I ever got it was bloodless. Did once over all the face except the chin, and twice over the cheeks to try XTG.
Have a question though I'm seeing a lot of discussion about angle of attack and wanted to make sure I"m on the same page. If my cheek is one plane to make 90 degrees the razor would be perpendicular of that plane...and 30 degrees would have the spine tilted towards my cheekbone (in a classic hold) just shy of 45....correct? That seems to be what I'm seeing on the vids but just trying to maximize my reading of the awesome tips on the forums.

Instead of thinking of the angle, I always think of it in spines widths. So when I'm making a pass, I aim for a gap of about 1-2 spines widths between the actual spine of the razor and my skin.

The angle that usually is quoted is 30 degrees or less. 45 degrees is probably a bit too steep, and might make it a little easier to inadvertantly cut yourself.

But congrats on going 8 shaves with no cuts..! I know I didnt last that long unscathed..! :D

jup, you're correct.

just half an angle of 90 degrees, it gives you 45. then half that again, it gives you 22,5. THese give you a simple way of getting close to certain angles.

+1 on the spine widths. Glen pointed that out to me when I first started, and I have used it as a visual ever since.

Another thing I do, especially with an ATG pass is to lay the blade flat and then raise the angle as I make the cut. After a while you get to know what the cut should feel like and you can make micro-adjustments as you go.

I also did not make 8 shaves with no blood. That is an accomplishment in and of itself!:)

Thanks guys but I should make a correction. This is the FIRST Bloodless day and my eighth total. Wish I'd gone 8 straight bloodless...the dominant side of my face has been looking like hamburger....:fim:

Well THAT's a horse of a different color - Looser! ; - )

30 degrees is a good guidline. I do vary my angles a bit off of 30 degrees with certain strokes and areas of the face. Sometimes, I am at 30 - 35 and other times I am 25 - 30.

With some experience, you will get the "feel" of what works best for you.

Keep up the effort, it sounds like you are doing very well!
