I've been looking around old antique shops for a straight razor for a few months now, and since I live in a small town, all I've been able to find is a Hamburg Concave with some tarnish on it.
I was wondering- is it possible to get the tarnish off?
or
Should I just wait and find a different razor?
Also, I'm on a very tight budget, paying my way through college, and need to keep things cheap.

Nice razor. I would pay something like USD 40 for it if it were shave ready. Razors from eBay almost never are, though, so that would cost you around USD 20 on top of that. There are a number of typical beginners razors in the Classifieds that I would much rather buy if I were you. Go through the beginners guide (see signature), as it contains a shopping list, the pick up one or two between USD 30 and 40 (Dylan aka holli4pirating and Sham aka hi_bud_gl are known to be competent honers, and that is far more important than the looks of the razor).

The asking price for the razor I have found is $25, just to inform you.
As I said, add USD 20 for honing, and even then you cannot be sure it is free of blemishes. I consider a buy from an experienced(!) seller in the Classifieds the safer solution.

Yes , you can use Maas or Flitz metal polish (I use Flitz) . If it's only tarnished , it should clean up fairly quick .Quote:
