Does the alum block cuss cancer?
Heh, I sure hope not!
Not to worry, nothing in there to cause cancer, when used as prescribed on the box.
Do you know if SRD has any?
Most online vendors do!
I suspect SRD has IT as well. Nice stuff, do get some:)
Can't find any in SRD
IT looks like you Are right.
Check out one of the other vendors. You can see ads from them here on this site.
I got mine from Amazon actually. Good price and the service is fast!

I just ordered from West Coast Shaving at a very reasonable price with First Class shipping.
Edit: Looks like Jpm beat me too it with the Razorock! :)
makes my face turn red
No cancer, but there were reports years ago that the alum/aluminum in deodorants was linked to Alzheimers.
By the way ... SRD had the Shavex alum blocks for sale a few months ago, and the last time I ordered, it took several weeks as it was on backorder from Shavex ... maybe they discountinued due to the undependability of the supplier?
I like the interesting result from the Shavex alum block ... different than other astringents. I'm not sure the ultimate result is that much different though, than say, witch hazel ... but I do like it, so plan to keep it in the rotation.
in the late 1800's early 1900's they used to put it in bread !

I had a hard time finding alum where I am (thank goodness for the Turkish shops...). What I found while looking was that what is being sold as deodorant crystal (solid form) in the natural product shops is the same substance. The price can be much higher than for "shaving alum" (at least here), but I don't think it is so expensive in the States? (Having used it for years as deodorant, I felt a little stupid. I had it on the shelf at home...:))

Torolf
Did you get any positive results using it As deodorant?
Hi,
Yes, it works quite well. I haven't used anything else since I was an adolescent. But I like the liquid form better.

Without wanting to hijack the thread too much, I need to ask, just what is the alum block used for with regards to shaving?

I just bought some shavex Alum from SRD about two weeks ago ? Unless they are out. I did some reading all over the net about Alum and near as I can figure, it's pretty much a salt and it's got some nice mild antiseptic properties to it. Like me,try not to get to sucked in to the whole aluminum alzheimer thing or any kind of thing for that matter. Just my opinion, but I think you should be pretty okay. Just stick with Potassium(potash) alum ans stay away from the ammonium alum (it stings alot more) I'm told. Hope this helps a little?:)........to MickR....It can be rubbed on the face when wet after a shave and it tones and tightens the skin. It can also be used as a deoderant(not an anti-perspirant). It is likend as a facial luxery if you will. I like it alot m'self .
