My wife can't understand why I love to talk about shaving now.
She's not hostile or anything...she just shakes her head and smiles.
Am I the only one that has gotten mildly obsessed with this "old school" style of shaving?

That doesn't change.
I started actually straight shaving about a month ago, but after a month of internet research, etc. I have to say I am shaving with my straight more and more often, and now that Christmas is coming up I only want aftershaves, soaps, etc. Plus thinking of getting that for everyone else. Have one blade, but I look at bidding site for a new one every week.
So yes!
I can assure you that the obsession will only grow with time. I started shaving with a straight about two years ago. I quickly gave up shaving with anything else, although I am starting to become interested in DE razors now (more stuff to buy). :D Next, you will start getting interested in restoration...that's when things get really nuts! Have fun with it, and be grateful for finding something that can turn an otherwise mundane part of your day into something fun and interesting. Welcome!
Hi there, and welcome to this place,
Did you say you now love talking about shaving? Shaving? Man, that isn't a good sign.
I've seen that happen a few times before to new members and it usually never turns out well. Nope, they end up going sorta nuts and purchasing huge amounts of what they call "Shaving Gear". Yeah, right. Heck, I know one guy who bought three shaving soaps AND two creams in less than a year! Not only that, but he bought himself an additional razor! Crazy eh?
Heh, don't get too used to that look your wife's been giving you. Yep, pretty soon that smile will be gone for good. After a while it'll be replaced by a look of serious concern for your sanity. Oh, what is it exactly that she's smiling about? Whatever you do, don't ever ask her that question. The answer could be unpleasant for you both.....

Oh, I hope you don't mind me being a bit facetious and goofing on you a small bit. All in fun is the way I hope you'll take it.
Oh well... You are not alone, my wife was the same... I enjoy shaving now, I think there's some aromatherapy, calming my nerves in hot shower, feeling my skin and concentrating on my sensation while I'm shaving. And then the smell of aftershave that stays with me, my smooth aerodynamic cheeks until late night... It's worth it!
I remember myself shaving with an electric razor while driving to work to save some time only to hear from my friends at work, "Why didn't you shave today?" And I would argue with them, telling them that I shave just 45 minutes ago (in the car, while driving at 60 mph)
I'm obsessed as well. I don't talk about shaving to anyone though. I know they would think I'm crazy, so that's why I spend time on the forums.
I think the primary reason we fall in love with this lifestyle choice is because we are being good to ourselves.
I am quite new to SR myself but I am obsessed. Managed to win 4 razors just this weekend alone on ebay - told you I had problems. Also I have ordered 5000/12000 hones, another strop.....will it ever end :)
I do not have an acquisition disorder, though I do have quite a few razors and brushes and creams with soaps. But I was looking for something perfect for me. I have found a perfect DE razor and a brush, I will not rotate them. Only my creams and soaps are rotating, because I like different smells. But almost every day I'm looking forward to shave :)
It's not you. I'm using a straight for about 2 months now and I already have:
1 Razor I shave with
1 Shavette
6 Dirty to busted razors to clean/restore/scale/whatever
2 Soaps
3 Brushes
1 Shaveready razor en-route
For christmas I'm asking for tools(for the restorations), soaps and balms. And I want hones to start honing.
My girlfriend doesn't mind I talk about it a lot. She's happy I found a hobby with very traditional aspects to it(being an ITguy that's kinda new for me). She is also an enabler, as she got me 2 razors to restore already without any special reason.
So just have you wife be happy for you(and keep on getting a smooth shave) :gl:
Welcome!!! Ive been Str8 shaving for years and My wife does the same thing when I talk about shaving. A smile,a up and down nod and a look on her face like shes faking interest. It probably wont change.Look at the bright side,if shes not interested, this is one thing in your house she wont want to take over.
I am totally obsessed. Received my first razor in the mail last Friday. I've purchased at least 10 more since...
Thanks, everyone.
I was afraid I was going crazy. No guarantee I'm not, but at least it's not a lonely trip.

I just got the "You're a DORK" comment about 1 minute ago... It gets rough some days... :)
I'm a week in and I have already purchased:
4 bokers
Henkels
2 Dubl Ducks
Rogers Cutlery
Dovo invisibile edge
JR Torrey
and probably some more bokers before the next few days end.
My wife recently told me that Im going to have more beauty products than she does.
Im trying to tell her that its a Masculine Ritual not Masculine Vanity!
Im only a month into this new hobby, but you know what, she isn't complaining about this one. This is a lot less expensive than musical instruments!
But yeah, Im obsessed, I now have to razors and my bathroom spot is turning into a mini man-salon.
I told my wife that Im going to grow my beard out after i aquire all this new shaving gear lolololo.

Yeah, some people just don't understand what the big deal about something as simple as shaving is. There's so much more than just removing unwanted hair, it's a form of zen, a way to relax. Every member here is in the same boat as you are, we know exactly what your talking about!
Hi,
It is new so you want to share your excitement with others. Your SWMBO may be the one you share new interested with. I've been using straights since January this year, thanks to my brother. I have to say I really like them over other shaving methodes.
I've acquired a few ebay buys and a new strop too. For some reason I have taken to honing and have a set of norton stones and a chinese stone. Either way, it comes down to sharing your interest. I drop the comment on clients sometimes. Some are receptive and we talk more and others just make stereo type comments like "I'd cut my face up". You don't talk further with those not interested. Hence SRP, Like minded people.

Just wait to see what happens when She starts taking an interest in wet shaving (whether with a DE or Straight). My wife finally took the plunge and tried out a DE I bought for her and is now asking where she can find a brush that is more "girlie" and what sites I get my soaps and creams from to see what other scents they have. I am going to have to build an addition to the back of my house to start storing stuff.. :D
Welcome to the club! :D
That doesnt change..! I got back from the London Razorcon on Saturday blathering away about all the hones and razors that were there and I was met with polite but uncomprehending smiles..!
SWMBO is very good at listening, and it was actually her that got me into the hobby! As she said when I got back; "I've created a monster!"
:rofl2:
