You can't go wrong there. This razor will come honed, shave-tested and sanitized by Lynn Abrams. You're also going to need a strop, so you might also look to see what razor-strop combo deals SRD is offering. You could potentially save a good bit of cash that way. Good luck!

Yes, the free honing is what turned me onto Lynn's site. I'll look at strop combos and more than likely pull the trigger on this on. Thanks everyone for the advice!

Also, should I buy the 5/8 or 6/8? If I'm correct these just correspond to the size of the blade?

You've made a good choice. As to 5 or 6/8, either will do. Personally I'd go with 6 but my first straight razor was a 5/8 and it's still in service. 6/8 is bang in the middle of the grinds and can give you an idea of which direction you want to go should the wish for variation hit.

Solingen RAZOR Which should I get?

Let me know what is the best Solingen Razor to get? I'll be headed to the city on Friday and Riesor will be closed. Any suggestions for the best razor for a beginner, that located in germany.. I'll be selectiing two razors.. the rounded tip, half hallow, 5/8 inch Razor hopefully that will look good in stainless steel because of the durable edge and rust resistant quality. I am a soldier so one of the razors will always be on the move in some kind of bag. Either a sports gym bag, a weekenders bag or a Rucksack. In the end I'd like to know the best options for WET PACKS or travel toiletry kits..

6/8 razor is easier for a newbie to strop properly because of the wider surface area.

Hi alexk3303,

I would look at getting the razor/strop combo set from SRD. I got a Bismark and strop from SRD last year but I decided to upgrade to a 3" strop instead of the 2".

I had a 2" strop that I got with my first razor. It came as part of a cheap set I bought years ago.

I find stropping with the 3" strop much easier and it has also improved my technique when I use the 2".

When it comes to a 5/8 or 6/8 razor as your first purchase, go with either. I use both and find stropping them very similar when stropping.

Either way which ever you go for you will enjoy.

I honestly saw little difference in stropping ease between 5 and 6/8 but did prefer the way the 6 handled on the face. Maybe this was because I learned to strop with a 5 :hmmm:. By 4/8 I had initial problems with stropping, though.
