Going from a 6/8 to a 5/8. A newbie's journey.
As John Lennon sings it - It'll be...just like starting over....
I've been getting pretty good with my 6/8 Dovo Bismarck. In fact, I could get as close as my Merkur Barberpole - provided I had a few days' growth. The Dovo is my 1st razor, and I hated it. But after some time off (and a beard), I returned to touch up my neck and cheeks with the Dovo instead of the DE and I just *got* it. It rocked. "Brilliant!", I thought. Happy days.
So I ordered a Boker Edelweiss 5/8 from Lynn and have shaved with it twice now. Its like I've never shaved with a straight before. I cannot believe what a difference a 16th makes. I'm all thumbs. I'm 2 left feet. And prickly.
It makes me appreciate how much subtlety goes into learning a straight. There must be so many different characteristics according to size / grind...mind boggling!
I'm having fun, so I thought I'd share.
