    Thumbs up First Straight Shave

Well, I did it! No blood, nice and deliberate. I had a couple days of growth and took the advice of Larry Andreassen from the WhippedDog. It went great. I can see that it will take a while to master the art, but I am confident that will happen. To the other beginners who have yet to jump, just be patient and for sure don't make any quick moves, like I was used to with the 3 bladed monster.
Thanks to all who responded with advice and encouragement. Looking forward to posting as a veteran soon. SHAVE ON BROTHERS.

Welcome! I'm jealous because it took me ten shaves to get to the "no blood" stage.

    Default No Blood

Well I got up this morning and noticed a couple of spots where I got a bit too close, I didn't see any blood when I was shaving but I must of had a couple of very light nicks. Either way I am pressing on. I talked to my dad this morning (he is 80 years old) and he had a bit of a chuckle when I told him I was straight shaving. I asked him if he ever did, "nope" was the answer. So I asked him if they had invented the DE razor when he was a kid and his answer was "they even had cars when I was a kid". Anyhow, I love this forum and straight razor, what a great community to share information and make friends.

    See ya later,
    Chip

I'm jealous as well. I'm on shave 5 and i stil have a couple scratches here and there but no real nicks like when i started. The nice part is the blood is so minimal that the ol' faithful styptic closes it up...after it burns of course then a follow up with witch hazel and there's no trace of blood just a scratch. But i am looking forward to the no nick, no scratch shave. Congrats on your though. keep it up.

    Cool

Welcome to the group and to real shaving. I have only seen a few give up since arriving here, and I suspect that they will be back.

Yesterdays shave: I had just finished 6 days of 12 hour shifts with little sleep and no shaving. Had a good weeks growth. Back when I was a DE shaver, I would have had to remove as much as I could with the old electric pulling and snagging on the long hairs before getting a terrible shave with the harsh DE blade.

Now I lathered up, stropped my Dovo Inox, and then swoosh swoosh swoosh and all the long hairs are wiped on the washcloth. Wow!! How can anyone return to the torture that was shaving before the Straight!!!

I am now a Free Man!!!

    Enjoy!!!

Yes, congratulations on a successful first str8 shave! You wait...If you're not already there, you will find yourself anxious for your next shave...every day! In a way, I kind of dreaded that very first shave and maybe the next couple simply because I didn't know what to expect. I think I was just worried if I had a bad experience with the str8, I would get discouraged. A year and a half later, I'm still with it and love shaving. It no longer feels like a dialy chore.

    Good luck!

Congrats on the first straight shave, and welcome to SRP! It sounds to me like you have a great attitude and will pick it up just fine. I can't wait to hear about your first BBS
