Can anyone tell me how to use a linen strop?
Hi koosh85,
You can use the linen strop pretty much like a leather one. Keep the razor fairly flat so that the edge won't be blunted and use a controlled stroke with a light touch until you get a feel for how it works on your razor.
I'm not sure exactly what the canvas does, but it seems to me like it straightens the edge and also polishes like a really fine paste. Personally I find the canvas/linen strop to be indespensable. It makes a dramatic improvement to my razor edges!
Wishing you success,
Jeff
Pretty much the same as the leather. For myself and many others, I do 30 strokes on the linen side and 60 on leather. As far as I know the linen just helps clean and realign the edge before going to leather.
I use a linen strop before and after every shave (about 25-30 strokes each time).
It's probably overkill, but I use it after a shave to make sure that the edge is dry, and before a shave to clean off any remaining oil (which I coat my razors with for storage).
Of course, before a shave you must then move to a leather strop.
