my ongoing newbie adventures
after my first official straight razor shave, it has gone like i've expected it to. alright, maybe it has exceeded my expectations by a tad. i had my first shave with my mk31, thank you obie. from there, i've been using my dovo half hollow. i had a third razor, a ck heljestrand smiling near wedge with a french point. i decided to put it on my great-grandfather's barber hone with a rolling x stroke. man oh man. used the microscope on the edge and then i went to town of my illinois 827. i think that i might've down about 40 strokes on the canvas and then 20 on the leather side. after that, i did another couple passes on my tony miller beginners strop.
i had my first shave with it today. i made up a Cade + KMF patchouli uberlather. anyone with these two products, try it. did my lather preshave while i stropped my blade, grabbed my hot towel and off i went. awesome. that was the thickest grind that i've tried so far. i think that the blade is 9/16 at the most, but it glided across my skin. what a shave. afterwards, i finished off with the alum, a cold towel, and something called proshave. the adventures continue...
