Hi, I have been lurking around in this forum and finally will pop my head up. Really would like to send out a thanks to Lynn for starting this and all the others here for the knowledge I have gained from reading your comments. I started one afternoon in Costco looking to buy another large box of plastic cartridges and decided I was tired of getting ripped off. Since then it has been a great adventure learning about the history of straight razors, trying to not create any new scars on my face and purchase some beautiful razors. Thanks again.

I look forward to seeing more posts from you, especially when you start to shave with a straight! Remember - it's a journey and a process, but it's FUN and CHALLENGING! That's why most of us do it. If you want a quick shave, this isn't the way to go. If you want to challenge yourself and making shaving something to look forward to, then this is it, baby!

Thanks for sharing the lightbulb moment. I think most of of us had an epiphany that there must be a better way. Whether cost, shave quality or another factor happy to hear you decided to give the straight a spin.

Good to hear you've been reading up before dipping your toes in. Likely you won't obtain desired results at first, don't let that frustrate you. Keep in mind gents of many generations successfully used this intimidating piece of steel long before cartridges were around. You have the advantage of places like SRP to assist with getting seasoned results.

Sounds a lot like me. Was tired of paying ridiculous amounts of money for refills. I'm 4 shaves (and a knicked blade) in and am not looking back. Best of luck to you. The best advice I can give you from my short experience...stay away from ebay. Didn't take long for me to regret that route.

Well, if you can keep it to just 3 razors, sure.

If you get bit, and get 3x3x3x3x... Even then, means you wont be spending time with a different hobby. Pending how expensive the 'other hobby' is, might still be saving money.

For me, motors and bikes take up tons more space and cash. So I'm saving.

Gawd, I sound like my wife when she'd come back with a dozen pair of shoes and six purses :rofl2:
