    Default Just Bought...

My first real straight from Whipped Dog! And the Poor Man's Strop as well. I've been using a Parker Disposable for the past two weeks but I figure that I'm in this for the long run so time to start stropping! As you can see with my pic on the left... clean face

Poor Larry from Whipped Dog... I emailed him like five times because I thought I paid him like twenty times. I should really be sending him a razor haha

Oh welcome to the wonderful world of stropping, it'll be the honing next for you! You didn't tell us which razor you bought, however. Let us know what you think of it and how you get on.

    Oh! What's a 'poor man's strop'?

Welcome to SRP. And so it begins....one strop and one razor. Then....one hone......then....one razor to practice honing with....

There, I've predicted your near future....that will be $5 please.

Then you think: "Maybe I should get a higher grit hone, oh well maybe I should get the full set, then maybe another razor, then maybe I should build up a seven day set, then maybe I should also get ... [continues endlessly]. Haha.

A good start! When your razor starts getting lonely, there's nice stuff in our members classifieds too.

    Enjoy the ride.

Whipped Dog provided me with my first straight as well. Larry was a pleasure to work with.

It's a handy intro to edge maintenance from Larry over at whipped dog. Basic bridle leather strop along with a piece of balsa and some CrOx.

CrOx, which is not Ox Crap. It's chromium oxide, a very very fine abrasive. Use that balsa strop when the blade starts to feel a little dull--that is, when it takes more pressure to shave hairs than it does to sweep away the lather. Use the leather strop before each shave (~60 passes is what I do), and again after you've dried off your razor but before you put it away (about 20 passes for me).

    Heap big fun!
