I know this was posted before but I wasnt even sure what to search for. What do you guys do to fix small and big nicks on strops? I have a travel strop that would be a pain to replace especially due to a few nicks, they havent effected my stropping yet, but they will if I dont sort them out.
I was thinking super glue and a real light sanding or something??
JL, start with a pumice stone first. You will find that will work most nicks down where they won't bother your razor. I like to do this every now and then since it really increases the draw. Make sure to wipe it clean with Neatfoot or a similar type of oil.
Let it dry flat for a day before use.

Actually there should be a post in here or in honing, right on the front page, but don't worry about it, here's the procedure (only valid for minor nicks):
1) Scrape the general area of the nicks with a pumice stone (any pharmacy, $2)
1.5) Clean any abrasive particles left over from the pumice stone. Usually a dry wipe, a wet wipe and another dry wipe will do the trick.
2) Use some strop conditioner on mink oil just around the area where the nicks are.
3) Let it sit for an hour or so
4) Condition the whole strop
5) Let it sit for a day
6) Good to go

Im ordering a new custom strop soon, but I need this one to last for all the travel...I appreciate it!
I am thinking of doing the same thing (ordering one of Tony's extra-large firsts), but that's really the last item on the priority list as this one works just fine (more than fine) and there are several razors, hones and a paddle that I'd like to get my dirty paws on before that.
By the way, if you're contempleting b/w strop dressing and mink oil, here are some caveats:
1) Strop dressing smells horrible.
2) Mink oil takes red dye out of the leather.
So choose your death but both will get your leather very nice and soft.
My strop purchase has been pushed back a bit due to my purchase of one of Bills razors. But I need a bigger and wider strop for these large 8/8s. I currently use the strop dressing Tony sends with his strops it works well, but I have actually never noticed a smell.Quote:
