Comments on this razor please

My first thread here so please excuse me if I have posted in the wrong section.

Well... I came across this razor yesterday and told my partner that I would love to shave with something like it one day.

I use a DE at the moment and have been thinking of getting into straight shaving. This morning after I got back from the gym my partner told me that she had a surprise for me.

Now just had a few questions, would it be suitable for a newbie? Should I just get a cheaper one to start and use it once I know what I am doing?

It's a good razor. May or may not be honed when it arrives. I don't think you really need another razor to practice on, but you might consider it. If you have any intention of dropping the thing or jamming the blade into the sink faucet like so many other people do, you might consider getting a new one.

If you do plan on getting another one there are plenty for half the price floating around.

You are one lucky guy! Get yourself an inexpensive beginners strop, and dont even THINK about touching a stone to it (practice on anything but that)!

Very nice razor, I wish I had it, let alone my wife ordering it for me! This razor will serve you well for the rest of your life, and it'll be fine to learn with, just as long as you get it professionally honed until you learn how to hone with a lesser razor. Good luck & enjoy this beauty!

There is no indication that the razor has been sharpened, and the photos imply that it is not. You're going to have to send it to someone to hone it for you and as others have said, you will definitely need a strop.

You can ask the seller if the razor is sharpened.
He is a member here so I doubt it is not honed, but again you can ask.

Congrats. Just be careful with it. Watch as many videos and do as much research on everything from shaving to stropping. Dont try an hone it the first time send it off to a known honemaster and have them do it.

Mike emailed and mentioned that the razor will be honed before it is sent out. I have also acquired another razor to practice with. Just to make sure that I don't damage this one.

I think that this is a start of my RAD, only if she knew what she has started :w

A lot of reading and research is in order before I start. Looking forward to trying a straight for the first time.

I bought one of Mike's budget razors (5/8 Union Cutlery "SPIKE") and it came shave ready. He did an excellent job of honing and it has turned out to be a great shaver.

Got the razor today.

It is absolutely stunning and I love it :rock:

I tried to cut my arm hair and it started to pop the hairs off and the razor wasn't even touching my skin.

Very pleased with this purchase from "The Restored Razor".
