How to manage wait

Seriously,

How do you fight going insane while waiting for the hair to grow enough for a good shave???

Sure, buying stuff is gratifying but still doesn't eliminate the intolerable wait... Yesterday I was just itching to shave again, and decided to strop for a while, hoping to get by with that. Guess what, after the strop I *needed* to see how sharp is the razor, did several HHTs, and... worked a little on my cheeks without foam or even water. Then I stropped again.

Today is worse than yestarday, good thing I don't have a razor at work...

I hope that once I master shaving with a straight and have tried all my razors and related products, shaving shall become a pleasant treat, not the addiction it seems to be right now

As has been said, patience is a virtue.

Enjoy the anticipation; luxuriate in the process. Just a bit of scented aftershave balm or cologne and every time you stroke your chin during the day, that faint scent will transport you back to the moment and bring a smile to your face.

I still look forward to getting up in the morning,

There is a very simple solution.

If the wait is starting to become unbearable halfway to the next shave then do this.

Shave only one half of your face. Wait 12 hours and shave the other half.

If the wait becomes unbearable after only 6 hours then divide your face into four regions and shave 4 times a day, a single region each time.

You get the idea.

Just rub your face as you watch the clock.
Watch the minute hand as it slowly makes
its rounds.....tick tock tick tock..... Your getting
very sleepy.

And then when people see you at work with partially shaven chin and the other cheek they will understand... if they are truly a lover of the SE. lol

I already do that!

I am also considering lathering up with a shaving soap, hanging out like this for a while and then just rinsing, without shaving... but I'm not sure I'll be able to stick with it (without using the razor!)

I restore razors while I wait to shave with my others :)

I think the hardest part is not shaving with your favorite razor every shave and forcing yourself into a rotation of sorts. Sure it makes those shaves with your favorite that much more special...but its still tough!

I pass the time caring for my nicks and cuts. Unfortunately, I'm getting better at this and sometimes go several days without having to use the styptic. But I start my last year of graduate school on Monday; soon I'll be too busy to worry about it.:rolleyes:

Since I 1st visited SRP I feel this urge to revisit it time and again just to see if there's some info I could benefit from and to see if there's a thread I can contribute to. There's so much to ask. And so much to write. Every answer raises 10 more questions... My wife told me the other day:"I hope you will soon have an answer to all you questions so you don't spend too much time contributing to SRP..."

Is there such a thing as SRP Anonymous? Or an antidote??

Why yes there is! and you are already a member...we meet here about 20 times a day and discuss are future purchases and past shaves. Unfortunately no one has kicked the habit using our method yet..:thinking: :confused:

Just wait until you swear your hair is growing faster and faster just so you can shave...and then comes the fasturbation:eek: ....thats when people either think you are in deep thought or they just look at your strangely....

Hey, remember that old shaving commercial from the 1960s or so with that guy using his new electric razor to shave a peach?. When you get the urge to shave just use your straight to shave a peach.

FYI,

I did manage to soap up, then just rinse without shaving a couple of days ago - this was hard, but to me it was worth it.

I just make shaving a part of my morning routine. Then I keep myself too busy throughout the day. The weekend roadtrip was hard on me though. Only one shave in 3 days :cry:

wow. I only shave once every several days anyway (unless required by consequent business meetings) - before it was laziness, now it's waiting for the nicks to heal and the hairs to grow long enough for a good, comfortable, *burn-free* shave. Starting to enjoy straight shaving so when I improve, the waiting period might be shortened :D

I shave at night. We have 2 bathrooms but I still prefer to do it when I can relax and enjoy it the most. And it takes me a good hour or so - can't think of giving up this time in the morning

Just wait a few months...I can get an excellent quick 7 minute no nick or cut straight shave including prep and cleanup..I dont like rushing, but when I have too I'll do it just so I never have to shave with anything but a straight.

This should improve rapidly. When I first started it took 45 mins or so, so I used the DE on weekdays and the straight on the weekends. Then I used the Feather AC on weekdays and the straight on weekends, then I finally got quick enough to do a 15 min shave (prep, shave, and cleanup) which is only a few minutes more than the DE, so I switched to the straight full-time. I did one once in 7, but I didn't enjoy it.
