I was stropping a Dovo Best Quality on a real strop, laid on a table. Using an X-stroke, I could see the edge bend _slightly_ as it came in contact with the strop, and where it came off the strop. I'd never noticed that happen when stropping with a taut strop in the air, but I've never looked for it, either. It reminded me of just how delicate the edge of a razor is.
Strops really want to be pretty flat. It looks like this weight belt has all kinds of waves and curves. And it looks wider than a typical blade -- "wide" strops seem to be about 3", not more.
So you could practice with it, using a razor you didn't care about, or a non-razor.
