While i wait to use my SE

This is not the same posting as we have going about what to shave while you wait for your facial hair to grow back :P

I am trying to do wetshaves with my mach 3 razor. But what I notice is that when I do a cut with the grain and then a pass against the grain. My upper lip has been really really bumpy and irratated. I believe this is from my razor, but I don't think that it is from my soap (the old Spice from my dad).

Also, it could be from my lather, I feel it is not going on as thick as it should be.

So, if there are any suggestions they would be much appreciated. I have read some of the info on classic shaving about trying to get a 'great' lather as well.

Sounds like the razor. This is a characteristic of multi-blade cartridge razors. If it were the soap you'd have the problem on your entire face even if you didn't go against the grain.

When you use the straight, you can manage the shaving angle, cutting angle and pressure better to reduce such hiving.

I think this is the reason why I have been able to use a straight 2 days in a row without much trouble - something, which was unthinkable for my skin with the multi-blades. What I notice is that with the straight I may have redness in some spots, but when it goes away (in half an hour or so) there is no problem whatsoever. With the multi-blades, when there's redness, I get bumps, burn and my skin (neck esp.) is screwed for several days. And ingrowns are so much fun...

Shaving 2 days in a row with a multi-blade was a really bad experience for me. This is why I had to use an electric, which felt pretty lame, and I transitioned to a DE. DE was better than multi-blade but even with limited experience the straight gives me better results.

I doubt it, but the soap is at least ten years old.
It has been discontinued and is worth more as a collectable.

back when i used the old mach 3, I only shaved against the grain. Actually, i still do that with a straight... but anyway, going both ways with a mach 3 might be causing the problem because that's like shaving 6 times. The mustache area seems prone to razor burn more than the rest of the face, for me at least. I guess because you move your upper lip around more than the rest of your face. Just my observation.

I never go against the grian on my upper lip with any razor for just that reason. Just go with the grain then cross grain if necessary.

I agree with Randy. I use a Fusion Power and I get irritation on my throat regardless of which razor (waiting for my straights too). So to minimize the irritation I shave that area diagonally on the second pass. Or just go with the grain and deal with the imperfect shave (which I have trouble with).
