Rossco,
I just started about three weeks ago. The best advice I could give you is stay focused on the shave. If you are going to be disturbed don't even start.

Thanks for the tip guys.
I'll try and avoid shaving with the toddler at my feet :D
Shave #2.
This time with contact lenses! Much better. Managed to shave dominant (right hand) cheek and side-burn area both WTG and XTG with a decent result - not bad at all!
The left hand remains something of a work in progress though - I think I need to watch a few more videos.
I can manage the WTG fairly well with my non dominant hand, although struggled when needing to be accurate (bottom of side-burn for a straight edge for example).
Also really struggled on this side with XTG. I'm pretty sure this will come with practice though!
I also managed my first cut - and I wasn't even shaving!! I was about to attempt some XTG with my non dominant hand when I managed to knock said hand with my other hand when going to stretch the skin. Stabbed myself in the chin - nothing major and the alum block soon sorted it out once I had finished :)
Hi, I too have just purchased from The Invisible Edge. After much deliberation, thread watching, Youtube viewing and increasing disatisfaction with razorburn I have decided to give Straight Edge Shaving a try.
Like you, I got the starter set but opted for the standard IE razor thinking that if I get on well then I can build a collection from there. My order was placed earlier today & I eagerly await delivery during the week. I say eagerly but I'm not gonna lie, I am REALLY nervous about my first shave. No matter how much reading & watching from experienced SE shavers it seems that there is nothing like experience & let's face it - nobody wants to cut themselves. Is this nervousness & trepidation normal?
Great setup, RazorRossco, that's a fine looking razor. @DeeTee yes, I was sweating profusely during my first shave with a SR lol.
Hi, I'm in pretty much the same boat as you.
I felt the need to comment on this thread because I too purchased the traditional set from Steve at the invisible edge and had it delivered at the exact same time as you. (highly recommended) Although I went with "the invisible edge" Dovo razor included. He must have shipped them off together!
I have 4 shaves under my belt and honestly, I have gotten to love this style of shaving. I won't say too much on your thread as I was planning on giving my own feedback separately. But I can comment on the soap. I found I had difficulty making lather with it at the beginning and was (and still might) email Steve for suggestions as it's his soap of choice. But I found I wasn't adding enough water to the lather and when I finally did, it exploded! I also picked up some cheap shaving oil and tried a squirt or two with it and it has really helped smooth things out.
I look forward to speaking to you some more and will try and give a more detailed response when I'm not on my phone!
Chris
