Pretty much everyone uses .50 diamond on Wool Felt, It excels with that, or the Crox.
Both are excellent choices for the wool felt.
Not sure I understand your question about the grain. We usually strop both ways...? Or am I misunderstanding.

I don't know if the spray is even needed. I worked in a wool scouring and topping plant for a while and the wear the wool caused on the gear was substantial. Beautifully smooth metal, but it would wear away faster than you'd expect.
As for the "grain" direction ... surely that would just mean there's more draw one way than the other. Just use a lighter touch when moving in that direction?
I use the .50 Diamond spray on my wool felt strop. I spray one light coat, about 6-8 inches away, and let it dry overnight, then repeat the next day. I'm sure it's the same for the Crox spray. I normally do 10 lapps with my razor. I find that to be plenty with the diamond spray, With Crox YMMV. Down and up would be 1 lapp. This works very well after a honing session. It should take your blade to the next level, especially coming off a 12k.
You got 2 sides of that wool strop so use'em. One side gets the Diamond spray and Crox on the other side,its a beautiful thing !!!!!!!!!!!!!
