Went fairly well, not supper close but thats ok. Learned a few things about technique and that ear lobes get in the way and can bleed a lot! Try it again tonight!

Sounds similar to my first shave with a straight.
Just take it slow. Do a WTG on one cheek and then stop. It takes a while just to feel comfortable holding the razor. It will get better.

I did both cheeks well, 90% of the right and 85% of the left and a bit of each side of my neck. I went until I got nervous and stopped. For those of you out there who are lurking and thinking about it, I advise taking the plunge. I could tell a technique difference between the beginning and end of the shave. I don’t think this is terribly hard to learn, it is just going to take some time and patience. I figure after 5oo passes it should come pretty easily. Also, the advice of “respect the blade but don’t fear it” is good. It seems surprisingly hard and easy to cut yourself. Hard in the aspect of if you’re paying attention and using good form it is harder than you would think to nick yourself. Easy in the aspect of if you are not fully aware of where the razor is located, where it is moving to and what angle it is being presented at (sorry I am a wood turner) you can slice and dice yourself quick fast and in a hurry!
Hi there. Just perceiver my friend & all of a sudden you will shaving well. Don't fear your razor but be Aware of it. It took me around 6 months of shaving using only my straight razor. I refused to be tempted back to anything else. Keep at it & I assure you it will get better & better.

I've gotta say, this post is so similar to so many posts on this site. It's a learning experience, and it's great that people keep at it, because the recognition in your own mind of the skill and practice and patience is what seems to be the driving force behind those who truly embrace and continue the use of the straight razor. Keep it up, it only gets better with each shave.
Trust me as someone new... the shaves get better with improvement in technique! Keep at it and you'll see the difference!
It may sound crazy, but I have been shaving with a straight razor for almost two years now and each shave is a learning experience. Keep at it.....in the beginning the shaves improve exponentially and then you will hit a plateau where it is second nature. How long it takes you to arrive at that plateau is up to you!
