Hi there,
I know a newbie isn't supposed to buy razors on eBay. I stumbled upon a couple on Etsy and fell in love, but I don't want to make a bad purchase. Your evaluations would be appreciated!

Check out the classifieds here instead, you can get a much better deal than those two.
The first razor looks badly worn and the second, well I don't know what they are claiming about it but I wouldn't believe it. Get something from the classifieds and have it professionally honed.
+ 1 to the advice already given here. Or you could check out Straight Razor Designs--they've usually got good package deals on razor and strop combos. Note: any razor purchased from SRD is going to be new, but will be shave-ready when it gets to you.
I agree with the others. Don't do it! You can do much better. You really should buy a shave-ready razor:

If something is advertised in the classifieds as "shave-ready" do I still need to have it honed?
No , if it's shave ready it will not need to be honed . Most shave ready razors are also stropped , ready to use . You may get away with a few shaves without stropping , but normally the razor is stropped before using it . You will need to learn to strop correctly before you strop your razor . You can practice the "X" stroke with a butter knife or similar smooth edged knife . There is plenty of info on this site covering every aspect of using , and maintaining a straight razor .
