The Zen Of Cuthroat, Sticky Icky!
So I have shaved a couple of times since my trip to filli. Once with my Henckel friodur which was amazing and another with my restored Lakevile cutlery Army & Navy which was a terrific shave as well. Todays shave was with my TI sheffield another great shave from a great razor. This shave however started off very poorly through no fault of the razor.
A month or so back during a SCAD binge I ordered shaving cream & aftershave from a new company that I had seen advertised on SRP. I had not however seen anyone post about this particular brand and I should have given that some thought. It was advertised for shavers of all sorts and claimed that you would have to sharpen your razors less. I assumed, as I think most would, that Straight razor shaving falls into the all sorts category. Sadly I was wrong.
I began by squeezing out a nickel sized portion into my new & kick ass Dirty Bird Scuttle...Nothing, no lather what so ever. added a bit more still nothing. OK ill take that, I guess this is a gel not a cream as it states on the packaging. While I have not used anything gel like since I stopped using cartridges and started shaving with a straight, I still gave it the benefit of the doubt. It felt smooth enough going on but not nearly as smooth or satisfying as the warm lather I had been getting from various creams using my scuttle. With the first pass on the right side it was good enough but not impressive. On the second pass the cream/gel had become sticky and caused me to nic my ear. I began to continue with the pass but was forced to stop as the razor both sticked and skipped, not a good combination and uber dangerous as Im sure you all know.
The water in my scuttle was still very hot so I washed all the lame stuff off my face, grabbed one of my Truefitt & Hill samples and whipped up some warm lather. WTG, ATG then XTG done! Another great shave in the bag no thanks to a crappy product that is more suited towards Cartridge shavers and should be marketed as such. While I have not mentioned this product by name in this post your all welcome to PM me and I will share it with you so as to avoid a waste of time and money. I found the after shave just as disappointing it had an underwhelming scent to say the least. Again my T&H sample saved the day.
A lesson relearned ...Dont judge a book by its cover. Nice packaging and ingredients with a slick write up from a decent PR guy dont insure a great product.
My different AD's have me willing to try most products even once, so this is bound to happen and comes with the territory. As I did during my shave you got to wipe it off start new and move on. Good Shaving Gents!
P.S. the shaving cream in the attached pics are NOT, I repeat NOT the product I am referring to in my post
