First time and addicted?

So I shaved with a straight for the first time on Sunday night. I was lucky or maybe ultra-careful and managed to get no cuts. But, the follow morning I did have a burn to my face that lasted the better part of the day. So too much pressure I'm guessing? Although 1.5 days of no 5 oclock shadow showing was nice!

I shaved again last night, and I must say I think I am addicted. I was, dare I say jonesing for a fix? So relaxing and such a smooth shave! I have to fight to not shave too often.

Looking forward to reading more of these forums (lurked here for a month while I debated on buying a straight) I have learned a lot from this site already.

I'm right there with you! Yeah, it's addicting. Just wait until you have more soap than you'd ever need, enjoy sitting around and talking about the benefits of "essential oils" with the guys, and going antique-ing. Yeah. It's. just. awesome. :)

That pretty much captures it. That slightly let-down feeling when the aftershave goes on and you think, "damn, now I've got to wait to do this again." or have feelings that match those sentiments.

I've been thinking of trying soaps. My biggest issue is I suffer from allergies so I am pretty much doomed to have unscented soaps. Although I wonder if a coffee smelling one would set off my allergies. I know the flowery ones will for sure.

This also means I generally can't use aftershave (maybe I will start a new thread on that)

There are plenty of "Sensitive" shave soaps/cremes. I believe Poraso has one called "Ultra" or "Hyper" something for people with strong allergies.

As for aftershave, grab you an alum block and maybe some witch hazel. That should help with that, and then you can find a safe scented one.
