I'm back, and more jealous than ever...
I guess it's been a year or more. I was gifted a Dovo Solingen 5/8 round point (used) to get started with. Zero previous experience. Got the wrong (too coarse) 1000k/4000k stone trying to save $. Ruined the almost shave ready edge. Bought all the stones to 12000k + .3 micron adhesive paper, got an old tensioned 4way strop and great-great granpa's two straights with original cases. Bought 2 more straights from a random nice guy at the wood shop (pics/descriptions to follow) and have spent numerous days/nights scratching my head and face learning I have angled edges, smileys, frowns, resto work and poor technique ahead of me. Almost got a nice shave today with my recovered, nearly correctly honed and stropped original Dovo.
Im so jealous of you silky smooth, creamy faced, delighted sages!
But, I have finally made some progress and felt the possibilities of success.
I'm more convicted than ever.
A heartfelt thank you to those that have gone before me, from this masterless apprentice.
