Waiting for my first razor and strop set to arrive in the mail took me back to my teenage days. Every night I checked the mailbox, and every night the mailbox was empty. A full week came and went. No package. Saturday morning, I awoke with nothing to look forward to, so I decided to make breakfast. As I walked to the kitchen, my sister rushed by me as she headed out for some errands. She yelled up before she walked into the garage "You've got a package on the table". I looked around at the kitchen table - nothing. The dining room table was cluttered, but in the midst of it all... Could it be? Did USPS REALLY come through for me for once? The shipping label read "Straight Razor Designs"! It was! :D
I found scissors, and approached the seemingly 'boring' brown package. But I knew better. The box was a Trojan horse, and what was inside was... well, to be nothing short of glorious. There I stood. My 14 year old self in my 23 year old body. I had gotten so used to the "now, now, now" lifestyle, that I had forgotten what it was like to have to wait for something I really wanted. I sliced the brown packing tape, lifted the flaps, grabbed hold of the plastic inside and proceeded to pull. The handle to my strop was revealed, and I was suddenly unsheathing a glorious ninja's katana. The red latigo leather was absolutely beautiful. But after a few moments, I realized I didn't see my razor... I knew it was on back order, and figured it shipped separately. However, just like a kid with an empty box of cereal, I tipped the box and shook it anyway, just to see if anything remained. The box felt weightless. But out flowed a second plastic package. "Dovo".
Epic - My weekend was made. All my loot had arrived unexpectedly, and all in the same package. Thanks, SRD.
That morning I showered to prep, lathered up, and set out for my first shave. All my research was about to pay off. I was going to get the smoothest shave ever, and on the first try, naturally! So I proceeded to shave my entire face and neck, with total disregard to all the advice I had read. 30 minutes later, much to my chagrin, it was not my smoothest shave ever. And I had knicked myself several times around my chin. But I had that first shave under my belt. I felt closer to becoming a gentleman.
Shave two went much better. I shaved my whole face and neck, not missing a single whisker, and I only reopened my previous wounds.
Shave three went south. I got myself around the chin area again, as well as a slice on my upper lip. Ouch! Upper lip no feel good after that one.
It's been about two days since shave three. My lip healed exceptionally quick, and I've got a nice face full of stubble. Tomorrow begins the weekend, and I think I know just how I'll kick it off. :)
