Hi everyone,
I was wondering if there is a point were you cant shave anymore with the straight razor if your hair is too long on your face?
I like to grow out a beard from time to time and then when im tired of the beard i take my electric cliper to take off most and then i will shave.

You are asking about absolutes. The answer to your question is, no. But, it becomes difficult to shave a full untrimmed beard. If you slice half your face off while shaving that is still defined as success from the wording of your question.
Barbers trimmed beards before they shaved, and so should you.

Your English is perfect. The question is just difficult. Lots of things can be done. The best thing about a straight razor is that it can do anything a regular razor can do, except get clogged between the blades.
I'm not sure if your asking about whether you will need to continue to trim beforehand. The answer is no, but it will be a little more difficult and a little more dangerous. A three or four day beard makes for an absolutely great straight shave.
A 10+ day beard can be shaved but even the lathering becomes a little more difficult at some point.

For my face, that is a 10 day beard.
I once took off my fist-long and thick goatee with a straight. Lathering was some what hard, but the feeling of removing a huge amount of hair using a straight in one go is awesome.

Thank you and hope it helps. I agree with AFDavis II that I could have much more beard after two months, but it's a start. You are only cutting the whiskers at the same level as you would after a day's growth, so I think it can be done. It might be fun to try it.
I would say the limit is what your are comfortable with. For very long stubble (or even a short beard) clipping or pre-cutting shouldn't be required. For very long (i.e. year old beard). You may want to run clippers first although it's not totally necessary it will make the shave a bit more comfortable.
When I first starting to straight shave over a year ago..took me 60 minutes...plus the excess moisture and I sweat alot naturally made things more complicated..now 15 minutes on the average
Remember, barbers used a straight to trim side burns and the hair at the back of the neck and that hair can get pretty long.
I think the problem with shaving off a beard without trimming it down first , is that you're not going to get it lathered well enough for a comfortable shave . I shaved 8 days of stubble off my face a few days ago , and really couldn't get the lather on as well as I could have if the stubble had been shorter .
Is it me or does he seem to come at his cheek at almost a perpendicular angle at times? Couple times I thought for sure he was going to cut himself pretty deeply the way he was wiping that razor around.Quote:

It's interesting what one can do with angle and pressure adjustments. The angle can be be increased (carefully) if pressure is really minimized. I like the way he handles the chin area by shaving down over it while raising the blade angle. One concern is the drain.
Since most drains will not tolerate big

I've only tried it the once, at the end of Movember last year, just a month's growth, Moustache and Chin, (bit of seperation between the two bits to comply with the rules of Movember).
Came off just fine.
I would add that working the lather in well is essential.

I removed my Movermber 'stache with the straight and it went fairly well. You just have to concentrate on getting the lather right down into it all the way to the skin. I'm not sure if a beard would be different, but at least for that part of my face, it worked..
