Pass me a dunce hat!

How many of you beginners, like me and seasoned straight razor shavers have dropped, broke or damaged your best or favorite razor? I bought a new dovo special when I first got started over a month ago and have dinged and dropped it 4 times. Seems like the more I try to be careful with something the more crap happens to it. I bought a nice Hess 44 last weekend at a gun show and I'll be @#$& if I havent dinged it up already and cracked one of the handles, of course it's the side with the logo on it. :banghead:

Well I for one am shocked! How could you be so clumsy? No one else on this forum has ever dropped a sharp razor.:dropjaw:

I shave naked all the time just to demonstrate confidence to my blade. :roflmao:w:rofl2::gaah:

Now you're just bragging...This assumes that if you drop your razor while shaving it will actually hit any part of you :)

It will obviously cut me all the way down to the belly button and then bounce into the sink.:tameshigiri:

I have a theory with two options
1 are you being too tentative while handling your razor allowing it to slip from your grasp?, or
2 are you being over confident when moving the razor around which allows ot to come into contact with things it shouldn't?
I was recently guilty of the second one when I cut just below the fingernails on two fingers while in a hurry.
Bled like a ba$^#rd for ages.

For those of us getting long in tooth and those already there we know holding on to things can be problematical. I always keep that in mind when I handle any shaving gear these days.

I found myself dropping and dinging my razor a lot more when I started. I think it was because I was over thinking things and 'not wanting to drop the razor and/or cut myself'

These days I'm careful as always, but due to practice I generally don't do too much damage thankfully :)

Have you thought of using a wrist strap/lanyard? ;)

The only issue I could see with this method is that it may swing into parts of you that you don't want it too.
I dropped a blade in the workshop once and tried to catch it with my foot so it wouldn't hit the concrete floor - can anyone see the obvious fault with this idea? :gaah:
Yes I was barefoot

I have dropped the same razor twice, neither time resulting in any damage or need to re hone. Since then I have purchased a memory foam bath mat from bed bath and beyond just in case my luck runs out, which normally it does lol
