When the puck is done

When all you have left of a puck is a ring witha hole in the center.Do you chip it out and put a new one in?What about all that wasted soap?I've seen plenty here that says heating/melting is not good,so how do I save that last bit to use?


I have an SRD glycerine soap in the plastic can with screw top and want to reuse the can for travel.I suppose this could also apply to wood bowls or any other container with a lid.You can't just stack the new puck on top it's too tall!

go crazy and swirl your brush with a larger radius! no heating anything, no wasted soap, and the tub is still usable for a future puck/bag of shavings.

Why not just keep using it until its truly done? or did I miss your point?

Problem is,no matter how wide you swirl the brush.There is that little left over in the corner that won't let the new puck settle in.

grab a fork, scrape the stuff loose from the edges and set your new puck on top of that.
That will make the new soap stick right away, and nothing is wasted. Yet:)

Or, if you wanna use the older stuff first, scrape everything out, add the new puck in the container and press the shavings/scrapings on top of that.

Both ways work perfectly.

You could be on to something!A soap knife/scraper for straight shavers!!!

Gentlemen, my friend Birnando speaks wisely. That's what I do: scrape the soap from the bottom and press it on top of the replacement soap puck.

Good heavens Obie!

When you take the dregs from the old soap and put it into the new soap you are taking all the bad karma as well as microbes and brush and skin detritus and use it to inoculate your pristine innocent soap puck. Once it receives all that it's that much harder to teach it who the boss is. It also gets surly with you.

I use mine to the bitter end. Even when it appears to be all gone there is enough residue for a couple shaves left.

Yes, my shave bowls cry from loneliness before I put another puck in.

If it is glycerine based, in a plastic container, I put it in the microwave for 10 seconds and the donut hole fills the bottom and flattens out.

Hellfire...

It's just a little bit of soap. How much can it cost you? $.07?

Just dig it out and toss it.


(Hmmm... going to have to start designing a shave mug that leaves no ring at the end...)

I have a kind of "scrap" soap tub that I put the last bits of soap into to make a kind of Frankenstein soap

Haha you could make a layered franken soap. A different soap everyday from the same puck, no more need to buy multiple soaps!!!

As I collected more and more soaps I found that it was too easy to lose track of what the puck was(:-(. Solution.. I slice a sliver off the puck/round and press that small piece onto the bottom of my lather bowl. The original puck/round goes back, dry, into it's original container... And I know what it is. Works for me.

Ok thanks for the few serious ideas,this was not a joke question.

I usually put it in the used puck bag :rofl2:
