The Dovo factory sends the razor out with the ability to shave, but it is not what most would consider a comfortable edge.
There is a video from How Its Made when they toured the Dovo factory.
A factory edge will shave, and can by that be claimed to be shave ready, but that doesn't mean that it is truly shave ready to the grade of a combination of sharpness/smoothness most of us seek.
About the seal I don't know, I've never bought a new Dovo, but if you buy a razor as shave ready from a reputable vendor I have no doubt it will be.
Maybe Lynn will chime in and give an answer about the seal?
Yep seen that episode. What I'm talking about is when the vendor says they've hand honed a factory edge and yet the factory seal is intact.
Dovo seals at the factory. They don't arrange honing with anyone. Dovo warranty is void if anyone but dovo hones the razor. So if the seal is truly intact then it's a factory seal.
Michael
Thanks to all for the input,no I don't believe the razor was re-honed by the vendor.#1 The shave was rough as hell#2The case the razor came in can't be opened without braking the factory seal.
It's realy no big deal,I was not charged for honing, and polishing a factory edge on the 4/8 stone I got from the same vendor was not difficult.I just don't understand what is to be gained by lying about honing the razors you sell? All that will do is discourage new clients, and they'll go back to what they were using.

Perhaps the reason is a function of marketing. By claiming their razors are "shave ready" (meaning they will cut hair, but not necessarily comfortably) Dovo can go after rookie straight razor users, not necessarily experienced ones. Just my $0.02
Sorry mapleleaf I think you missed something.Dovo didn't do this the vendor here in the U.S.A. did.
Dovo razors are "supposed" to be shave ready from Dovo. Of course, most of us know better or want better. I have shaved with a factroy sealed Dovo. It wasn't great, but it did work. Check out youtube. type dovo straight razor. There's a little video on there from "How it's made" They show you a razor at the Dovo factory from start to finish, and at the end, someone does the old hht test....Now, don't shoot the messenger. I'm just telling you what I saw, and how they can say that....YMMV from razor to razor.
I saw that vid and another TI vid where they did the same HHT after what I considered a very heavy handed honing. Almost like Mastro's honing vid. Of course if the razor wasn't 'up to snuff', or appeared to have been neglected in the promised honing, the vendor is the best person to contact.
I know of a UK vendor who hones all razors to 'shave ready' before despatch so of course the seal will be broken. However they state they will fit a new seal if you require one ( maybe the razor is a present for someone else ).
Must have new seals from Dovo which I find rather bizzare. It's like Dovo admitting their razors are not shave ready despite claiming they are !
This is a cut & paste from the UK vendors web site...
NB - BOX SEALS: all razors supplied in the blue metal boxes are factory sealed when they reach us. In order to ensure they are shave-ready, we peel the seals to check them and re-attach them when this is done. If you would like a NEW seal (maybe the razor is a present) just drop us a line, thanks!
I miss one thing...
The broken seal gives vendors a great chance of selling second hand razors (refurbished imho).
Maybe i'm a way to big of a pessimist. And i'm sure there are truly honest vendors out there but i'm not naive either.
That's why i buy new... I shave what that shave ready razor and when it gets dull than i send it out to be honed by an expert.
A new DOVO is shave ready... You can shave with it... It's pretty good but not fantastic.
To experience that fantastic feel and to be able to shave WTG-XTG and ATG you must hone your razor.

Found the Youtube video for those interested.
Believe it or not, the entire straight razor world does not revolve around what we say or do on this forum (more's the pity). What we call "shave ready" is an SRP term - it is not a universally accepted unit of measurement, nor is it a legally-defined term.
So it is entirely conceivable that a vendor might consider the factory edge from Dovo "shave ready", and they would in fact not be wrong. I've shaved off a factory Dovo edge, more than once, and did actually get a shave.

It's the insightful comments like this that earn you the respect you so richly deserve. :bow
my assumption about factory edge like dovo's when I saw their vid & picts,
the only possible best way for them to test the edges by hht. that's why some factory edges aren't shave ready, some are ok
I assume they can't test every factory edges by shaving.
I thought I heard from a forum that dovo produce about 150 razors it self per day.
I've had experience 3 of their factory edges last year, 2 weren't quite shave ready, but 1 was fine
