Thread: Faucet wrap a little neat trick

Well if you have hit your razor against the faucet while rinsing it you have felt the pain of needing to repair and re honing your blade. I have done it many time and was sick of it happening so I devise a little plan to stop myself from hitting it. All you need is a damp/wet face cloth.

1.Fold the face cloth several times to give me a thicker end.
2.Wrap it around the faucet with thicker end behind the nozzle (this prevents water from going backwards).
3. With one side being shorter than the other, wrap the longer side of the cloth over the short end. When wet this will give weight to it holding it in place.
4. Now turn on your water check for leaks and start your shave.

By using a cloth this allow the water to still run through the cloth and be redirected so you don't have metal to metal contact but plenty of water to rinse. For the people who prefer to wipe their blades rather than rinse it provide a nice area to do that also.

Not a bad idea, or, maybe you could pull the plunger up on your sink drain, fill the basin with water and rinse your blade in the basin that way you don't have your water running for half an hour or however long it takes you to shave. Doing it this way has worked for me for years and I never have dinged or chipped my blade on the faucet.

Good idea. The only razor I ever ever rinse is my DE. I never rinse my straight razors. In fact, the only time they come near water is when I hone them. I just wipe the edge on a folded hand towel laid on the bench between strokes. At the end of the shave I wipe the edge on a bathroom towel and then wipe them with Eucalyptus oil before I put them away. I have been worried about dinging my DE in the past, though, so it is a good idea. Though I wouldn't leave the water running, my self, the wife would KILL me!

If you lay your face towell as in the first pic, you can strop the lather off your blade and continue shaving without the rinsing and water, and lather drying!

Love all these ideas. Yeah recently I been keeping the water off and just wiping the blade on it works well. Just sometimes I like to reheat the blade with warm water.

Yeah, it's true that it's certainly a nice feel to wet the blade.

I plan on trying out the wet sponge in the sink trick next. I like you faucet cover approach though.I would never have thought of doing that.

I hope I'm not jinxing myself posting this ..... but I've never yet hit my razor on the faucet and I rinse the blade of lather throughout the shave. It is just a matter of paying attention to what I'm doing ....

I did it once...Just once too, many years ago. I've never repeated the same mistake. I'm very watchful of that one now.

Have a large wet sponge on the sink that I wipe the sides of the blade off on. Not best solution. I tried a softer plastic bowl in the sink filled with warm water. Worked but problem with soap scum and the plastic that it's made of. Still looking for a neoprene sleeve that would fit over the faucet. No luck.
