Went to have another look at it today before going out to purchase some cleaning products and noticed the blade is extremely stiff to open now as well. Looks like some water got onto the scales and i have some oxidation on the pivot point. I didn't expect these things to be so delicate! Will some oil dripped into the pivot do the trick? It's pretty stiff I'm almost worried about breaking the scales.
This exact thing happened to me, first shave was last night, did the whole face and now there's a couple brown spots on the blade. I'm going to give it a thorough cleaning, oil it and see if that takes it off. Note: I have not stropped this blade yet.
If your hands were wet,you used the steptic,you got some on the blade,thats the culprit.Quote:

As an update to anyone who may stumble on this thread from searching, pixelfixed seems to have been correct about the styptic pencil. I did my second shave today and kept that styptic far away and the blade looked great after with no staining problems. Pinklather's helpful suggestion about mothers mag and aluminum polish was also great. I bought a small tub and a few minutes of work with a small amount on a terry cloth got rid of all of the staining.
Glad all worked out,I use a large alum block after every shave,you get any of that stuff on steel and you will have instant stains and major rust in a very short time.
nice thread this, I'd had a couple of these issues myself, i had no idea straights were so delicate!
Good luck with the stains. I've used Flitz to deal with stains on what looks to be the same model razor. Using a small microfibre cloth, it worked like a charm. Be very careful, though.
