You are off to a good start by taking it one step at a time. I think most people are a little nervous at first. The real trick is not to loose that entirely and become over confident. Respect is always a good thing with straights.

+1 on what BobH said. I did exactly what he said a couple months ago. Right before I went out golfing. Got a little too over confident, and it bit me hard! Spent the next half hour trying to stop the bleeding. My dad showed up to pick me up and said, what the he'll did you do! I always think back to that day when I get to confident. Sounds like your doing well though. All I can say to help is repetition, repetition, practice, practice. I'm also still in this category.
Hang in there dude. Dont give up, the technique will come in time. Dont get complacent & rush your shaves. keep it slow & steady.
You'll do fine
Cheers

I am also very new and very slow with my shaves for the first month I only shaved with the grain. Now that I am more confident I shaved against the grain for the first time best shave ever!! This was also after my first hone I DID IT!!! THANK YOU SRP for the great videos and tech advice.I would not have had the courage to lay my new DOVO on a wetstone without your generous support. SRP ROCKS
Congratulations! As they say it's a Marathon, not a sprint....and remember to take time and care with your Razor...a well stopped edge makes learning the process that much easier.
And you are right about SRP being the place for help...
Sounds good to me! And congrats on choosing a Hart! They make excellent razors.
Welcome, looks like you had a great start. Do let us know how the follow up shaves go.
How's the Hart razor? Don't be be afraid to post pics, it's been a while since I 'lusted' over a Hart and I'm starting to get withdrawal symptoms! Lol
Regards,
Ash
Welcome! Great stuff, now keep being careful and speed will come in time. Unfortunately, so will various acquisition disorders ;)
