My most comfortable shave yet!
Salutations!
So today's shave was the most comfortable shave I have ever had. How did I do it, you ask? Was it a new hone? A top end razor? A classic vintage razor that is rare? New strop? New paste? .... Tell us Jack! Tell us!!
It was none of those things. What i did didn't cost me a dime. I took a step back , went back to the basics and re-taught myself to lather.
I know some of you may be thinking, "what a goof, boy doesn't know how to put soap on his face". Well when I first started straight razor shaving I learned I was using -way- too much water. So I reduced dramatically the amount of water I was using and found a lather that was satisfactory and continued my journey of straight shaving. However, as of late I felt like my shaves should be much better. I knew my razors weren't the problem since I just got one with a new edge recently, so was it my technique? So I went back to watching how-to videos and what do you know! I was using not enough water because i was over compensating for my first error! The whiskers came off with ease and my skin was wonderfully smooth.
Never feel like you are beyond educational videos, sometimes we can always use a refresher course.

Congrats! I found the same thing to be true once I got my lathering consistent my shaves became much more consistent.

Yup, the lather is important.
The stuff I use seems best when it glistens brightly, but won't run.
It's probably different with every soap/cream...but probably just as important to get it right.
