Have this Shumate 012 honed?

While at a gun & knife show I purchased this Shumate 012 from a knife dealer. He had a couple of trays with vintage straight razors in them. Many were not in the best of shape with deep pitting. I told him I wanted to try using one so he recommended this Shumate and mentioned a honing should make it usefull. It appeared to have more tarnishing than anything to me at least. For less than the cost of a honing I decided to get it. I would like to get an opinion of whether to send it off or get something else. There are plenty of guys here who can clean the blade up and hone it for you (Glen being one himself) for a very reasonable price. First thing is do you want this thing mirror shiny or just refurbished and sharpened (leaving patina where it is...vintage look is cool in my book). I would make that decision as far as aesthetics goes, then talk to some of the guys for pricing; the more they know ahead of time the more accurate a quote you get from the start.

Dont waste any time! Go to the classifieds and check under member services.

That's a very nice razor. It should clean up and hone nicely and give you a very pleasant shave.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. I like older things and would like to keep the patina on it. I must get ready for work but will check member services in the very near future.

Nice razor! It should be a great shaver once honed. If that square point isn't something you need or just want you might think about having the honer mute the point. It makes it a little more friendly. Good shaves and welcome to SRP!!
