grab the Bismark. You like it, you want it, just take it (as long as it fits in your budget... or you already have a Christmas wish set ;) )
I would suggest a DE straight as well since they're easier to travel with (don't need all your other gear, just the brush, the shaver, soap, & blades) but that can come as you need it.
I have been looking for a DE as well for the days I'm in a rush or going on vacation or if my straight needs to be sent off for honing. I think I'll be buying the Edwin Jagger DE89 read its really good and it seems to have an affordable price tag. I'll probably pick one up next month or so.Quote:

Personally I tend to nick myself easier with the DE now that I've got a handle on the straight, but that's just me. I was just saying I'd recommend some practice with the DE before using it in a hurry :)
Yep, even tho the blade looks well covered and safe, they can still bite ya! ;)
If you decided you didn't care for shaving with a straight, you could re-sell the razor and strop and recover a large portion of the initial cost.
Thanks shooter but I already ordered the Dovo Bismarck with the starter kit and it just came in. I'm pretty excited still doing more research on how to shave with it anyone have anymore good articles I should read or any more tips.
Enjoy your razor! I didn't see this thread until now, and would have weighed in supporting your desire for the Bismarck. You got the 6/8 one with the thumb notch? I have another Dovo with that same blade shape, and love it. The shoulderless blade and thumb notch make it, for me, ergonomically perfect. Without shoulders I find it much easier to strop, and the thumb notch makes it much easier to flip while stropping.
There's all sorts of stuff to read; anything in the Helpful Links box (click on the logo to get back out to the main page) is pretty much written with you in mind. Same for the stickies (posts with red titles) at the top of the Beginner's forum.
