I guess it depends a lot on what oil and how much. I rub Eucalyptus oil on my razor after use and after a post shave strop (10/10). Eucalyptus oil is very light but it does the job. I never clean it off before stropping before the next shave, but it's so light you can see it at all. I have no rust problems with my razors, they're stored in two three razor cases on my desk in my bedroom (on top of the desk not in a drawer). The bedroom window, which is about two feel from the desk; maybe less, is always open, rain, hail or shine, summer and winter alike, yet as I say, I have no problems with rust.
Oh, I'm sure a lot of people here would be SICK to DEATH of me going on about Eucalyptus oil; I'm sure they think every time they see a post about oil on razors 'oh no, Carl's going to be going on about Eucalyptus oil again...'
