Dinged the sink on toe... Noooo!!

Last night towards the end of a great shave, I barely dinged the toe of my blade... :gaah: Im so careful about this but yet I was stupid. I shook my razor for a second which I never do. I hit the rim of the sink.

I didn't notice anything right away so I thought I hit the spine instead of the edge. My shave was fine too. Luckily I never hit that exact spot the rest of the shave. After I cleaned up and was going to strop my razor for 10 laps like I usually do, I noticed that it made a line on the leather... Nothing damaging thank God.

After looking at the edge again more closely I could see it. But it's so small... Can that be honed out? I feel so bad because rodb, the guy that I bought both my razors from, had just rehoned this one and it was excellent. :( I feel horrible.

What a way to ruin my weekend. Thank goodness I have a second razor I bought from him too. Both are used and were inexpensive. But I still like them a lot. Hopefully someone can fix it. I read it can be honed out. I already contacted rodb and LegalBeagle. Legal actually lives close to me, and even works in the same area LOL. :)

From now on, I'm holding the razor with the spine facing the tap. Another learning experience I guess...

It happens, fixed my sink encounter a few weeks ago.

Yeah, mine was on my most expensive one; when I heard that "dink", you couldn't have gotten a sewing needle up my butt! :dropjaw: It's inevitable that you will do it atleast once...hopefully just once.

Luckily the little tiny ones are fairly easy to hone out, one thing to maybe try is 50 laps on the linen side and see if the scratching of the leather side goes away. This won't fix the tiny ding but might make the blade usable until you can get it honed properly.

So LegalBeagle is going to fix it for me. Hopefully he has time so that I can actually see him do it. Just gotta meet up with him during lunch this week.

I was near that accident several times so I decide to secure my ladies with putting the towel on the side of sink to wipe the lather out. The towel I use at the pre-shave preparation.
Double profit - 'coz we have hard water in here and if I rinse the lather some scurf (if I translate it correct) appears on the blade.

You know what? I always put a dry towel down on the sink's edge too! But I either had removed it towards the end, or it high a spot that the towel wasn't on... :( Maybe I should use a hand towel, instead of a face towel since it's a bit bigger...

My shaving den is very small so I use small hand towels for shaving routine. I use from 2 to 4 in one shave:
1st To prepare face and then I fold it and put on the sink to wipe
2nd To clean and re-warm the face between the passes
3rd is dry and I hang it on my shoulder to wipe the fingers to stretch the skin
4th goes in game if I loose any of previous.

Wife is not very lucky about it but still love my STR8 shaves 8-)

I use two. One for hot towel, I'll use that one twice. The 2nd is for my sink.

If it is big enough it can be also problem of visible control. I mean if something distracting appears in your visible range - big fold of towel, long hanging end of the towel, bright color thing - your mind marks it like obstacle and command your body to avoid it.
So your movement ability will be confined and your shave will be uncomfortable.

Very interesting point. That's definitely not an issue for me though. My towels are white or a dark brown anyways.

I did the same to my razor. Sent it out for a fixin and came back good as new. Good news is I bet you never do it again!
