Dovo Bergischer Lowe - impressions

hey everyone,

i haven't gotten into straight razors, but I've seen pictures of the Dovo Bergischer Lowe and damn does that thing look sweet! it actually makes me wanna move away from DEs and get into straight razors. I'm curious - anybody with experience with these? Is it just good looks or can it perform as nicely as it looks?

I'm relatively new to straight razor shaving. I have been doing it for 3-4 months now. I own three straight razors, one of which is a Bergischer Lowe. It is by far my favorite of the three. I find it gives really close shaves effortlessly. It takes a sharp edge easily and holds it well. It's also quite aesthetically pleasing... but be warned: a lot of the gold washing will strip off with time. Still, I would say I am very happy to own a Bergischer Lowe.

I think it's a bit too much personally. I like the ridged spine and the Spanish point, but the label on the blade is overdone.

I'm even more concerned with the shank. Give me solid still with jimps to grip if possible.

They are probably good shaver but I personally think it is too much to. Those classic straight razors are things of the past and I personally prefer them just plain like this one :

I'm generally a function over form kind of guy (having said that, I am having some razors rescaled largely because I wanted some nicer scales).

I'm not a fan of gold wash or a heavily worked back - but some tasteful engraving can be nice.

What's most important is that you like your razor and that it shaves well.

I have two of these and have honed many. They are really nice looking razors and very good shavers. These are one of the nicest razors Dovo makes as far as I'm concerned.

Gold wash can be easily removed (e.g. cloth + MAAS, rub for 5 min or so) and then the razor will look much classier

Having Lynn's endorsement, you don't really need any more encouragement to get it... unless there is something else that calls out to you and you can only afford one razor

if you don't mind me asking, what is your take on the 5/8 ebony-handled silver steel dovo. is this one of their better shavers.

Bought a Dovo "Bergie" Lowe upon Lynn's recommendation. As you might expect it was a good move. Right now, along with a pre-Dovo Bismark, it's the best shaving straight razor I have. I highly recommend them. :tu :tu

I have one and I love it. As I recall it was the second razor I acquired and it was shave ready out of the box, but barely so and at first I didn't like it but after honing it, it really improved and now is an exceptional shaver and really good looking too. The finishing is fantastic.

I love to looks of it and have been wanting to try one since I've started using a SR.

Maybe some day......

I just got my Dovo Bergischer Lowe the other day, and unforunatly Classicshaving forgot to send it on to Lynn before sending it to the UK which is a pain but i can not wait untill i get it Honed :hmmm: i did notice that the wash comes off really easily (front Goldy shield) but i just love the full design,

If you like the blade style of the Bergischer Lowe you should also check out the "Founders Razor" at Classicshaving in the limited editions section. It's hard to tell from the picture that the blade is all but identicle to the BL's, but it has different markings and beautiful bone scales. I have one, as well as a BL, and they're both great shavers.

I actually like the Ebony-Handled Silver Steel too......It has a more delicate edge than the BL, but is also an excellent shaver.

The Bergischer Lowe was my first straight razor purchase. I have been completely satisfied. It is way sexier than the images on the net. It holds an amazing edge and is very gentle on your face. I have had the razor for six months and can count on one hand the times that i have slightly cut my face. (Woke up late and rushed the shave) Impecable shave and I highly recommend. The quality you get for the price is worth it! Shaving oil makes the shave much better. Get a nice best badger brush too. The whole experience is the reason you chose to shave like a real man!
