I have been getting the sting from the aftershave (would with cartridges too but I hardly used it then). Tonight I took a shave and was anticipating myself for the sting and I noticed it was significantly less. Does the sting ever go away completely? Btw I am using Pinaud clubman and Truefitt balm. The Truefitt does seem to stings little less.
Try an alcohol AS without shaving at all, just wash yer face, then pat dry and apply the A/S that will give you a baseline...
I get a little tingle even without shaving when I use an Alcohol based A/S
Lol why didn't I think of that. So it should eventually feel like it does when you apply some without having shaved?
Well I wouldn't say that. You would have to have an extremely light touch and even then, since it is shaving, I'm still thinking you'll get some tingle, as shaving does abrade the dermis to some degree.
I use the amount of tingle to guage how well my shave went. If it burns like my face has just sunk into the fiery depths of hell and landed in the devils bonfire, I know I didn't do a very good job. If it feels like the slap of a woman who didn't really mind my chat up line, but wants to make sure i know my place, it was an average shave. And when it tingles like a tongue on a nine volt battery, well that's much better :)

For just this reason, I switched to alcohol free balms. Only in rare (and usually weird) instances is pain a good thing.

I am trying to figure out if the question was worded in a way where you are asking if it goes away because you don't like it or does it feel like less sting and you are just curious if that is normal?
I have notticed that the sting usually becomes normal to me over time, I have become accustomed to it. Every once and a while though it gets you when you don't expect it. \
If the sting bothers you then listen to the alcohol free items listed above.
I am of the club that likes the sting a bit now.

Completely? Nope, but will decrease substantially as you skills improve. As others have said, it's a good test of how well you shaved. I do use alcohol-free and then follow with some kind of moisturizer.

A little sting is a good thing - that's the antiseptic effect at work. This is what is working for me:
First, I use a hot shower and/or hot wet towel (2 or 3 times) prior to lather, and maybe even a pre-shave oil.
After shaving, I use a COLD wet towel (2 or 3 times), to close the pores. If it's already stinging, I use an aftershave balm like TOBS Jermyn St. for sensitive skin, non-alcohol based for an analgesic effect. If I've actually used good light technique and a sharp blade, I usually don't have much stinging at all, in which case I might prefer an alcohol-based aftershave for an antiseptic effect and the stronger fragrance, such as the Royall Vetiver I'm using today.
One thing I noticed though, you're using pinaud clubman, and it is going to have some burn regardless, and if you have a bad shave...boy you're gonna know it quick. I would try some AS made with witch hazel, or lower (less than 70%) alcohol content. Proraso AS, speick, and razorock baby blue are good ones that tingel, but only burn a little w/ a not so great shave, but won't "light your a$$ up like a christmas tree if you're off that day." There are some others that are made w/only witchhazel; I think em's place, Shaving Brushes, Men's Wet Shaving, Badger and Boar Bristles Brushes, Razors sells them, I am sure you can google her if this link isn't correct.
